Dia Dearstyne is a prenatal and vinyasa yoga teacher based in Brooklyn, NY. Her creative and playful sequencing is rooted in traditional yoga and influenced by her lifelong study of dance.

I came to yoga in 2014 as a struggling modern dancer in NYC, looking for a break from my usual dance class haunts. I had taken yoga before, here and there, but with little lasting impact. Something about the packed Vinyasa classes of 2014 though, sealed my fate as a life-long yogi. I loved the sweaty, breathy flow of Vinyasa. And I loved the sense of both anonymity and unity that came from practicing in a completely full room, lost in and a part of a sea of mats and bodies. At that time in my life yoga relieved me of some of the pressure I was feeling about my career in dance and helped me rediscover joy of movement.

What has kept me dedicated to my practice over the years is how rejuvenated I feel during and after yoga. I experience a return-to-self that is undeniable and deeply comforting. I am continuously amazed at the new things I learn about myself from a practice I’ve done for years.

As a teacher my #1 goal is to hold space for every single person who wants to practice yoga, no matter their circumstance. In each class I provide a warm and inviting experience that honors emotional and physical safety while offering creative, alignment-based flow sequencing. And I hope that my teaching communicates that though Yoga is a disciplined practice worthy of reverence, there is also space for silliness and fun. We combine effort with ease in our physical practice, and also in our minds and hearts.
